I recently gave a TED talk on two of my favorite topics – Robotics & Smart Materials in TEDx Vision-Z forum. The theme was to speak about how the world is changing so fast and how technology is asking us to specialize, and the environment is asking us to help save it. This was an event to show our vision, to help the new generation become aware of what is out there for each of us to link to. I presented my dreams and research and how the generation-Z can help build a better future. I also shared my goal to accelerate the innovation and accessibility of smart materials: I want to go open source!
In this TED Talk, I gave a speech about transforming robotics with soft robotics and smart material. It is a very fascinating topic for me since based on my experience, the traditional rigid robot cannot work in certain circumstances, instead, robots made of elastomeric polymer and smart material can perform amazing jobs. I believe that it’s a quantum leap in the Robotics field.
TRANSCRIPT:
For a minute, imagine the future– What do you see?
Here’s what I see: I see shapeshifting. I don’t mean aliens or werewolves; I mean smart materials.
These smart materials are no longer science fiction, but they’re here now, and they are interacting with us.
I see us never having to charge a device. I see windows that can store energy and release it when it’s most needed–when it’s the cold of winter. I see plates that can have one shape and turn it into another. (And I made it!) I see clothing that regulates your body temperature. I see space Shuttles impervious to cosmic micrometeorites.
What connects these technologies? They are all designed from smart materials, and smart materials will be the new medium for smart cities and the future as we know it.
